What's the best way to ship features?

An engineer provides a glimpse of how shipping works with Elon. Thanks for the share @ben

I’ve experienced the Facebook approach and many other Silicon Valley orgs. Much of this comes down to the org chart (this always makes me laugh)

What works for you?

I personally love agency… the ability to solve problems without guidance is super freeing. Perhaps this is because I also love to work.

It feels like some of the larger organizational structures with multiple layers are typically required because there are a few “agentic” people who manage low agency people. But perhaps not?

I actually think that with AI, we’ll keep seeing fewer levels and ultimately more agency.

Yes, as agency goes up, feedback loops are going to be incredibly important for driving work forward.

This is interesting and two pronged, IMO! My operational brain sees some of the “rigor” in these processes being valuable, as you have to consider the cost of “rework” when something falls down.

BUT, in Elon’s case, it seems he’s creating more of a learning loop. I had to dig for this, because I saw it on X a few weeks back.. something along the lines of,

”Think of your product / org like an airport

Some planes are fighter jets.
Some are commercial airliners.

Both are fast. Only one is allowed to be reckless”
