Saw this job post, and it’s worth noting that one of the more successful AI companies sees the value in user research. I see the needs evolving.

“Choose the right level of rigor for the question.”

I think that the post kinda sums up what is changing the expectation of research. A few years ago, many UX researcher job descriptions focused on understanding users.

This one focuses on:

  • Learning speed
  • Decision quality
  • Product strategy
  • Hypothesis testing
  • Organizational systems

They want someone who can triangulate signals from mixed methods

  • Interviews
  • Usability testing
  • Surveys
  • Experiments
  • Analytics
  • Data science partnerships
