How AI Skills Change The Game

If you’re anything like me, the first time I heard of an AI-skill – a piece of information that an agent can use when a use case fits the scenario (yes I’m using em dashes) – I thought, “why the hell would I ever use that”.

Recently, I completely changed my mind, and all it took was a single skill.

Context

We’ve been doing tons of work building out tools that help us leverage AI as a tool to enhance and revitalize our workflows entirely. This requires architecting tools using code, determining the workflow on what’s required to go from point A (what people start with) to point B (what’s the output), crafting the necessary steps to get there. It’s a significant effort.

How This Changes Today

You can get to value faster. Within chat windows with the top models, you get something new. In a chat window, a workflow can happen dynamically. You no longer have to stick to a particular workflow. It can happen on-the-fly. This creates a new opportunity, a new way to work, a new way to integrate into existing systems that people are already using.

Skills are a new way of thinking about workflows. It’s a dynamic puzzle piece that fits into the scenario that calls for it. This means that:

  • One person can create skills that directly fit into another person’s workflows.
  • Installation only takes a single click.
  • Building a skill cuts the work to get value in half.
  • Value is shown almost immediately.
  • Value is contextual to the user’s problem.
  • The user doesn’t have to think about using this skill. It gets called upon by their agent.

A skill ultimately gets a direct line of creating value into another person’s workflow.

The Glare Skills Framework (how we’re leveraging skills now)

After building the initial v1.0 of Glare and introducing skills into the mix, we’re seeing the value of Glare’s framework for product & design decisions explode.

The skills framework (a multitude of skills that cohesively work together) creates a system that allows agents to think like we do, taking advantage of the system to create more impact within a product world.

My only question here is does this create more dependencies on the computer (or Autobots as I call them) for value?

Bare with me. I 100000% see the value here, but to play devils advocate, does it take away the opportunity to learn what someone else might be bringing to the table and just skipping to the output?

This is the million dollar question that comes along with the rise of AI.. is how do we combine speed + learning.
